Arctic Guides offers beginner and advanced avalanche courses for both privat persons and groups as well as for professionals working in avalanche terrain. Our courses are held according to the Swedish avalanche course standard SVELAV and are recommended for skiers, snowboarders, snowmobile drivers, climbers and to anyone loving snow covered mountains .

Our avalanche courses are normally held in Swedish but can also be held in English on request.

SVELAV | Freeride 1

On this two day course you will learn the basics of avalanches, avalanche terrain and avalanche danger. You will learn how to choose a safe route and get methods for decision making and risk management. We will also practise the right use of avalanche safety gear and companion rescue. The course includes theory and and practical exercises.

SVELAV | Freeride 2

This is an advanced course with focus on route planning and risk management in avalanche terrain. The course themes include: preparations, communication in group, decision making, information management, understanding avalanche forecasts and avalanche problems and safe route choices.

To participate to this course you need to have completed SVELAV Freeride 1.

SVELAV | PRO 1

This three day course gives you a deeper understanding of avalanche terrain, risk assessment, risk reduction and how the human factor affects our decision making processes. You will learn how to use and analyse the avalanche forecasts and weather forecasts. We will analyse the snow and the snowpack and learn the basis of snow stability assessment. We will also practise avalanche rescue, the right use of the safety gear and how to report accidents, incident and avalanche observations.
The course includes both theory and practical exercises.

SVELAV | PRO Avalanche Rescue

This is a course for those needing competence and skills for organized avalanche rescue in their profession. This can be for example mountain rescue teams, ski patrollers, ski instructors, guides etc. The course focuses on organized avalanche rescue. It includes moments for practical rescue techniques as well as risk assessment methods for occupational health and safety in avalanche terrain.

PRO Avalanche Rescue is part of the SVELAV PRO education system leading to avalanche technician and avalanche expert levels. To participate in this course you need to have completed a First Aid course including CPR (min. 3 days).
